Why? Because it’s not about being neat. It’s about making work easier and faster.
The KCG 5S essentials:
𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐭: If it hasn’t been used in months, it’s probably waste.
(One team freed 20% of their space by letting go of “just in case” items.)
𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 Organize for flow, not looks.
(Moving tools to arm’s reach saved minutes per task.)
𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞: Cleaning = inspection.
(Problems appear when people actually look.)
𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐳𝐞: Pictures beat procedures.
(Visual standards cut onboarding time in half.)

(No leader involvement = no 5S.)

If 5S feels like extra work, it’s been done wrong. Start small. Be consistent.
